This article looks at the Polish minority in Siberia, with a special focus on the Irkutsk area. The historical paths of Polish families who arrived there – either through deportations or voluntary - are presented. The author tries to establish the size of that group and the criteria under which individuals and families can be said to be members of the Polish diaspora. The general censuses help also to paint a general socio-demographic picture of that group. On the basis of primary research among representants of Poles in Siberia the article also analyzes their relationship with Polish culture that is the level of maintaining some cultural patterns, language proficiency and religion. Special attention is also paid to readiness of that group to emigrate to Poland.
