The aim of this article is to assess the nutrition level in Poland in the light of the current dietary recommendations. The focus is on the diversification of consumption of the basic food products in households by socio-economic groups and with particular account of food products of vital importance for the health of the Polish society, that is milk, fish, fruit, vegetables and their products. Also the level of consumption of these products in households maintained by the poorest and the wealthiest people has been described. The present model of food consumption in Poland strongly deviates from the rules of balanced nutrition. The Poles eat too much animal fat, fatty meat, confectionary products and sugar and too little milk, fish, vegetables, fruit and their products. The improper diet increases the risk of many chronic non-infectious illnesses, colloquially known as diseases of modern civilization. With a view to improving the health condition of the Polish society numerous advertising campaigns are organized in Poland. They encourage people to eat more milk, fish, vegetables and fruit.
