The aim of this work is to rank Polish major administration units according to their innovative activity. The following research methods were used: 1) classification by nearest neighbors, 2) rank, 3) taxonomy by Czekanowski's algorithm. Calculations were performed on the data set including variables describing elements of innovative activity available for all 16 administration units. Variables applied are only partly identical to those used in Summary Innovative Index for the UE and OECD countries. The author comes to the conclusion that the most innovative are Mazowieckie, Malopolskie, Slaskie, Dolnoslaskie and Wielkopolskie regions. .
