Art and various spheres of artistic activity have been recently one of the most inspiring spheres for contemporary historiography. Methodologists and theoreticians of history venture to the domains of art looking for inspiration and tools. In particutar the postmodern novel may be an interesting alternative to traditional historie writing. The 'Khazar Dictionary' by Milorad Pavic discussed in the current paper is an example of such undertaking. This novel dictionary is divided into two parts: female and male, each of which provides information and entries about Khazars arranged in alphabetic order. At the same time this publication is not closed, leaving place for any reader/historian to supplement it with new entries.
