Maciej Zurowski seems to be one of the most outstanding experts on the culture of Roman countries in the 20th century. He compared French and Polish poetry applying interdisciplinary comparative studies. He also provided a precise methodological and historical-literary analysis of poetry - painting and poetry - music (Chopin) connections as well as of symbolism (Rimbaud, Lautréamont, Verlaine, Mallarmé) and the 20th century poetic avant-garde (Apollinaire, Cendrars, Reverdy). Thus Zurowski made a valid contribution to Polish studies of the Roman culture and proved to be an excellent philologist-comparatist.
