Panujący obecnie kryzys daje potencjalnie dobrą szansę na sprawdzenie i  ponowne przemyślenie roli przedsiębiorstwa jako niezbędnego środka w  budowaniu sprawiedliwych społeczeństw. Przekonania i  preferencje dotyczące tego, co jest sprawiedliwe, bywają bardzo różne. Chcemy zatem pokazać, dlaczego międzynarodowe przedsiębiorstwo, aby być konkurencyjne, musi zyskać większe znaczenie pod względem społecznym i  zwiększyć swoją odpowiedzialność na lokalnych rozwijających się rynkach. Jest tak dlatego, że sposób, w  jaki firma kształtuje swoje relacje z  pracownikami, lokalnymi społecznościami i  rynkiem, może w  dużej mierze przyczynić się do powodzenia jej działań biznesowych i  ich zrównoważonego rozwoju. Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia jeden z  przypadków, w  których działania były potrzebne, a  który okazał się tragiczny – jest to przypadek międzynarodowego przedsiębiorstwa w  gospodarce chorwackiej znajdującej się w  okresie przejściowym.
