The issue of bibliometric research, that have been discussed during the conference 'Bibliometric analysis in science and research. Application, benefits and limitations', are considered. The conference was held between 5th and 7th November 2003 in Julich (Germany). The papers pointed at the uses of bibliometric analysis in evaluation of scientific communication, and particularly in evaluation of scientific institutions and in science policy. Possibilities of using ISI data in national, institutional and field comparisons were shown. Critical opinions on Impact Factor and use of quantitative data for scientific institutions were presented as well. The attention was paid to research in WAN (wide-area network), especially in Internet and in WWW pages.
