Teaching and bringing up of the young generation has always played a prominent role in Jewish culture. The actions taken by the Jewish Community in Bytom can serve as an example of the implementation of educational tasks on the local scale. The earliest mentions of the teaching of Jewish children in Bytom go back to the second half of the 17th century. In the 18th century, private religious schools were established, to be transformed into a city Jewish general school in the 19th century. Representatives of the Jewish Community also generously supported youth studying in Bytom's higher schools and academic establishments by setting up grant foundations. In addition, a kindergarten, a day activities centre and a housekeeping school for children were opened on the initiative of the Jewish Community in Bytom.
