Referring to the conception of a nation created by Norman Davies, the authoress discusses two 19th century conceptions of nation, namely: liberal and nationalistic ones. The latter was dominating in European reflection through the 20th century. Norman Davies' conception of a 'Nation' is based on multi-cultural assumptions. This idea is next contrasted with the nationalistic notions, which still dominate in national historiographies.
