As one who attended Patocka's lectures on Husserl's phenomenology at Brno University in 1966, which marked the end of the ban on Patocka's public teaching, and as one who was, from time to time, Patocka's guest and correspondent, the author recollects those lectures and remembers Patocka himself as he behaved in person in a period that took place mainly during so-called normalisation. Added here is a hitherto unpublished letter of Patocka's to the author which examines the problem of 'normality' (in the biological and medical sense) from the phenomenological point of view.
