The article compares two versions of a remarkable prose satire of early Czech Humanism recommending a life style contrary to all valid social norms and mainly based on German late medieval and to a lesser degree Italian Renaissance patterns: Frantova práva (The Statutes of Franta), edited by Jan Mantuán Fencl, and its Polish translation by Marcin Bielski, which until recently was regarded as lost. The Polish text renders the original almost literally, but aims more at an erudite public than the Czech original, thus following the German and Italian model. Moreover, it offers most of those concluding parts missing in the only preserved Czech edition and adds on four occasions some passages in a way which indicates that it cannot be excluded that the translator made use of an edition slightly different from the only known Czech specimen.
