Work of I. L. Serbinov left a visible trace in science. He had works on microbiology, phytopathology, physiology of mushrooms, bacterial decease of bees, stimulants of decease of industrial fish, fungus decease of plants. However, historians failed to give him his due, partly because of poor factual materials required to make up his work biography. Even the information about his date and place of birth had to be corrected. His own manuscripts found in archives allow reconstructing of his biography: where and when he was born, what kind of education he received, which position he was offered after graduation of the phys.-math. department of the Saint Petersburg University, when his first research works where printed and his first report was delivered, who were his colleagues in the Saint Petersburg University, what kind of a scientific carrier he could do. The information that could be up-dated thanks to archives, is marked throughout the article in italics. Also, revision of previously closed archive sources allowed adding the list of his scientific works with more than 10 positions. The article is meant to prove that use of only secondary sources cannot give full information, but, rather, leads to circulation of inaccuracies and clear mistakes that can be found in mediators' works.
