The article analyses the quality of Ukrainian language used in the current school text­books. Factors which emerge as the main reasons of the poor quality of the language in these text-books are: authors' negligence; de facto domination of the soviet doctrine of making the norms of Ukrainian language subservient to Russian; the lack of implementing the selection and control mechanisms. The paper offers some practical suggestions as to improving the process of textbook's preparation.
