LANGUAGE OF TODAY'S SCHOOL TEXTBOOKS: NOTES FROM A LAYMAN

The article analyses the quality of Ukrainian language used in the current school textbooks. Factors which emerge as the main reasons of the poor quality of the language in these text-books are: authors' negligence; de facto domination of the soviet doctrine of making the norms of Ukrainian language subservient to Russian; the lack of implementing the selection and control mechanisms. The paper offers some practical suggestions as to improving the process of textbook's preparation.
