In recent years (after the Polish EU accession) emigration from Podlaskie voivodship to European countries essentially increased, while the popularity of the traditional emigration to USA decreased. Biographical materials indicate, however, that traditional emigration patterns still are prevailing among labor emigrants. New emigration patterns (innovative-transnational) occurs far less frequently and apply mostly to persons who are better educated, young, single and live in big towns. The highest intensity of new patterns of labor emigration is among those emigrating to the United Kingdom and Ireland. The paper is based on available statistical data and a set of emigration stories.
