The article deals with the issues concerning syntactic phenomena in modern Bulgarian, shown against the historical background of language change. Attention is paid to the transformation of certain types of sentence structure (on the semantic level - polipredicative structures) into utterances with a simple structure, containing deverbal abstract nouns. Four particular relation types expressed in those sentences are analysed - causal, temporal, conditional and concessive. The paper outlines the issues of irregularity and restrictions concerning condensation (nominalisation) processes depending on the semantic relation type.
