This article concentrates on researches on problem of economic efficiency and clinical effectiveness of two models of health care system - national health system and social insurance system - both functioning in western European countries. At the beginning main characteristics of both models are presented. Then results of and conclusions from many papers and researches are discussed. Summing up, it can be said that there is no winner. Each model represented in different countries is better in some areas and worse in others. What is more, Beveridge and Biskarck systems performing in western countries are hybrids with many similarities not only differences. So, there are no straightforward conclusions for Polish health care system.
