This study looks at the presentation of the normative ideal of fatherhood in Czech-language Czechoslovak textbooks published between 1918 and 1939. Textbooks for Civics lessons and reading books for Czech Language and Literature classes were mainly used. The ideas of fatherhood described therein were studied from the perspective of the status of the father in a family, his relationship to his wife and children, and his involvement in family life. The normative fatherhood studied was compared to the textbook concept of motherhood.
