The article presents results of the survey concerning the use of outsourcing by the Polish university libraries. The survey was intended to provide answers to the following questions: the extent of the current use of outsourcing, predictions on its development, obstacles to its implementation and expected results of its use. The answers to the survey showed outsourcing being used to a limited extent as a means of solving individual problems or providing selected services instead of making it a part of strategic library management. Strikingly, library managers do not attempt to search for and apply outsourcing solutions. The research shows the need for further education of library staff and library and information science (LIS) students as regards outsourcing.
