Ecological economics is seen in the context of efforts to establish a new scientific paradigm opposite to the traditional paradigm of economics. The key differences between works of ecological and environmental economists result from the efforts which are aimed at creating new epistemological premise based on an evolutionary paradigm. Ecological economics makes an attempt to include, into the cognitive process, elements of uncertainties, values, and different perspectives of investigation of socio-economic facts. Meanwhile, environmental economics is seen as continuation of the considerations to date concerning new currents in economics based on the theory of externalities. In this paper the author analyzes the differences between ecological and environmental economics described as epistemological tensions within economics and social sciences. It tends to present basic methodological premises of the new paradigm of economics. The works of ecological economists today are aimed at providing new epistemological premises usually referred to as post-normal science.
