As its title suggests, the study focuses on the playwriting of Joe Penhall. Besides a detailed analysis of Penhall's two latest plays Haunted Child (2011) and Birthday (2012), the author contextualizes both texts and points to all crucial themes and motives repeatedly present in Penhall's plays. Moreover, both Czech and British productions (Royal Court Theatre) are being mentioned.
