SYNTACTIC AND SEMANTIC PROPERTIES OF METATEXTUAL LEXICAL ELEMENTS (WITH 'I') CLOSING OFF THE UTTERANCE.

The aim of this article is to define the grammatical, pragmatic and semantic properties of metatextual expressions containing 'i' (and), which close off an utterance. It is shown here that expressions like 'i po ptakach' (and that's that) are separable and have features characteristic of interjections. Phrases like'i basta' (and that's the end of it) are inseparable and therefore, they should be regarded as appositions. Metatextuality of expressions like 'i po ptakach' and 'i basta' is discussed and their semantic and pragmatic properties are analyzed. A semantic explication of the meaning of these expressions is suggested.The data considered in this article comprise seventeen expressions with 'i', which close off the utterance. The investigation of numerous other such expressions, along with their relationship 'to i po ptakach' and 'i basta' is left for future research.
