There are approximately one hundred Polish organizations functioning on the territory of the FRG. However, they are in an underprivileged condition. Often underinvested, they suffer from insufficient material and human resources (number of employees), which contributes to their inadequate professionalization. One of the factors that negatively affect the situation of Polish organizations is their relations with the German public administration. The aim of the article is to describe the relations between the Polish associations operating in the FRG and the German public administration from the perspective of the leaders of the Polish organizations. The results of empirical research show that in spite of granting the Polish organizations freedom of activity and providing them with some minor financing by the German public administration, in a majority of cases they are treated by the officials in an impersonal way, cooperation being limited to the financing of selected forms of activity. Feeble relations between the German public administration and the Polish organizations are particularly visible on the federal and state levels.
