The problem of creation of the proper names is one of the most central topics in onomastics. The typology introduced in the paper is based on a theory of lexical motivation and takes into account two basic aspects: a) a motivating element, b) relation between a motivating element and a motivated element (proper name). The typology is done in several degrees predominantly on the basis of the feature - origin of a motivating element, three categories are distinguished: intra-lingual, inter-lingual and combined intra-lingual-inter-lingual nominations. Furthermore, a detailed analysis is provided within the framework of intra-lingual nominations (there are three categories: de-appellative, de-onymic and combined de-appellative-de-onymic nominations).
