The author was a student in Moscow in 60s, when he was introduced to Dobrov's works. In 1973 he came back to Vietnam, and worked in the National Institute for S&T Information at the State Committee on Science and Technology (SCST) (now the Ministry for Science and Technology). A great number of Dobrov's works on organization and management of science were translated into Vietnamese language and published in that period. Dobrov's name became widely known in Vietnam thanks to his book 'Science about Science' (1970 edition, translated into Vietnamese in 1976), which became a professional manual in Vietnamese HEEs on specialties such as 'science & technology management', 'science & technology policy', 'information management', 'science & technology history', 'science & technology archives'. When the SCST thought about the necessity of S&T forecasting, its methods were adapted from Dobrov's books 'Science and Technology Forecasting' (1969), 'Method for Targeted Science & Technology Forecasting' (Dobrov et al. 1971). Vietnamese scientists were introduced to many other books by G.M.Dobrov, such as 'Potential of Science' (co-authored, 1969), 'Organization of Science' (1970, co-authored), 'Science: Information and Management' (co-authored, 1977), 'Management of Research Effectiveness' (co-authored, 1978), 'Science & Technology Potential: Structure, Dynamics, Effectiveness' (co-authored, 1987).
