Jan Mukařovský developed an approach to the problem of the relation between sign and transcendence in his lectures of 1936-1937, published in 2008. In the final conception, Mukařovský introduced a scheme which is interpreted by Mestek as the model of a square with a chiasm of diagonals for fourfold conceptual configurations. In interpreting the chiasm of monologue (verification) and dialogue (falsification) we are led to a consideration of the complementary relation that Mukařovský’s structuralism has to Popper’s methodology.
