Fifteen years after the abolition of communism and the USSR, there is growing interest in Russian culture and in Russia itself. The presence of Viktor Pelevin's prose in Poland proves it. The Polish are curious about people's present level of existence, their social status and what they are interested in, how they perceive the world around them, what really matters to them, what values they throw away as irrelevant or outdated. In Pelevin's writings we can see contemporary Russia and its young generation. The writer, in turn, watches and interprets changes associated with the decline of communism and the rise of capitalism.
