Nowadays pedagogy widened tasks to educate people who are able to solve problems in a creative way, using intellectual, emotional and spiritual possibilities. Explorers connected with the American projects Getty Institute Education for Art found interesting approach to children's contact with art. The works of Howard Gardner and David Perkins are reviewed. In this connection the programme 'Meetings with Art' (MA) was designed for pupils of classes I–III of the basic school with the aim to educate the sensible perception of art. Especially well-chosen methods and forms of working were used to systematize children's knowledge of art and history of art as well as the organization of historical time.The knowledge of history of art was divided in three blocks: - for class I - 'Sign' - (prehistoric art, ancient, Christian) - the emotional receipt and representing the content connected with ceremonies and holidays, elements of everyday life as well as ways of notation; - for class II - 'Content' - (mediaeval art, renaissance, baroque and rococo) - finding in culture and art the relationships and principles, as well as exploring life and works of prominent representatives of epoch; - for class III - 'The transformation' - the chosen elements of art of XIX and XX centuries - workings concerned understanding of the creator's intention as well as creating the plastic works with understanding the space of artistic working. The MA programme at the Private Art School 'Scherzo' in Kraków. The analysis of results of tasks checking the programme shows the working in assimilating the content connected with history of art in a positive way. Pupils who were working with the MA programme developed the skill of observation of surroundings. The pupils from this experimental group more significantly often placed in their works the elements connected with history of art and culture and used in their description specialist words. Constructing the didactic events and using the foundations of manifold intelligence makes it possible to use the captured skills in varied problematic situations and in a range of different subjects.
