The paper focuses on determining the role of income diversity and mechanisms generating it. It deals with issues concerning disproportion between incomes in the aspect of the economic theory and income division practice. The issues of the income parity, especially the aspect of equality vs. efficiency, and the choice of measures used for income comparison are presented. The role of the state in moulding incomes and their diversity is also explained.
