he study is devoted to the music at the monastery of Augustinian Canons in Šternberk (founded in 1371, closed in 1784) at the time of its greatest flourishing in the eighteenth century. The Latin annals of the Šternberk canonry are the main source for its history. This study presents information primarily about monophonic and polyphonic liturgical music and its specifications (plainchant was sung mainly by the canons – about 20 – while “figural music”, i.e. more elaborate musical settings including instruments, was performed by lay musicians who were also responsible for music on secular occasion such as visits and celebrations and during Carnival) and about the instrument collection and the period repertoire (the only preserved source with musical notation is a gradual dated to the years 1752–1755). Attention is also devoted to some musical events outside of the monastery and to military music during the war with Prussia.
