The peculiar personality and the work of Henricus de Isernia have attracted scholars for more than two centuries. The first digest of his form letters was published in 1803, but a complete edition of Henricus’ letter collection is still lacking. Also, the question of his potential identity as Henricus, the protonotary of the royal chancery, as well as Henricus Italicus has not been definitely answered. This study presents new biographical details about Henricus de Isernia acquired from previously unpublished sources. The solution to the problem of Henricus’ identification is based on a lexical analysis of text formulations and letters and their mutual comparison.
