Theoretical and empirical analysis of political adjustment are presented. The phenomenon was analyzed as process and its effect. Three types of political adjustment were distinguished: (1) adjustment, (2) protest adjustment, (3) maladjustment. They were measured by specific voting behaviours vs. non-voting. It was assumed that predictors of political adjustment/maladjustment are some features of socio-political mentality: the perception of the state and democracy. The results obtained in representative sample of Poles showed the subjects most critical to the state and democracy reveal the symptoms of difficulties in political adjustment.
