The discussion on the Medieval Berber language is usually reduced to the linguistic materials without serious intent to restitute the historical background. This study deals with some linguistic and historical questions about Western North Africa during the Middle Ages. The aim of our research is to study the Berber language through some hagiographical sources written in Arabic with several fragments and words in Berber. The study contains a first part which deals with the linguistic problems in the Maghreb during the Middle Ages. At the second level, we do a short literary and historical presentation of the book of 'Al-'Azafi'. Then, in a third part, we give the linguistic material found in the text : phrases and toponymy. In the fourth and last part, after a sum up we invite the scholars to go on with these researchs for reaching a new and better knowledge of the history of Medieval Maghreb like in social history, informations on the ancient Berber language and onomastics.
