THE OUTSIDERS AND THE FALSIFIERS
Languages of publication
The outsiders are the homosexuals: sculptors, painters, composers, writers, poets and other artists who were homosexuals or were supposed to be homosexuals. And the falsifiers are the historians of art, music or literature who present in their studies and biographies all those people as non–homosexuals or tend to cover their sexuality. Sometimes it is done by making no mention about it, and sometimes by strict falsifying the biographies of the artists under discussion. It happened to the biographies of such great men of culture as Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Shakespeare, Tchaikovsky and many others. The authors of such falsified biographies are under the pressure of a negative stereotype of homosexual, which is difficult to adapt to great figures of European culture. But the result is the avoiding truth.
