Data on aviation aptitude tests from the World War II period have been used as an example to demonstrate methods of analyzing the benefits and limitations of selection procedures. What is pointed out is the combining of the importance of the prognostic accuracy of the tests as well as the share of rejections for decreasing various types of statistical error with respect to expected success in adapting to future requirements.
