This article, with regard to the conference that took place in the Polish Academy of Science (October 2008), concerns the debate on drawbacks of current scientists activity and journal quality evaluation. Much attention is paid to the most widely used measure introduced by Garfield, namely the impact factor. Because of its construction it has got many limitations, which are discussed.
