This article treats of power structures and social depoliticization in authoritarian, post-colonial African states and the relation between these matters and lack of development. Although the correlation has for years been the subject of research, most analyses have been made on the basis of Western sources. In this text, the author would like to consider the ideas of the Nigerian political scientist and thinker, Claude Ake, on the prerequisites for improving the African state.
