The history of life displaying remarkablc diversity from one side and the unity from the other is documented by both fossil and molecular evidences. The Darwinian concept of monophiletic origin of all living species provided a foundation to our understanding of life. Current trends of synthetic biology are relevaat to the studies of life at all levels of its complexity.
