In the core of the article lies a review of Fritz Mauthner's program of the critique of language. Particular attention has been paid to the consequences of Mauthner's acceptance of Humboldt's concept of meaning, which presupposes the solution to the problem of making account of different cultures. Moreover this author discusses the widely accepted opinion that Mauthner's works contains the essence of Wittgenstein's late philosophy.
