Peddling as a traditional trade is a typical phenomenon of the Slovak region - Kysuce. Due to its common occurrence and close connection with the natural environment it influenced all the cultural standards in the region. It dates back to the 19th century when it developed as a part of tinkers' activities. Despite their separation, the occupations of peddlers and tinkers still remained closely connected. On their travels peddlers were influenced by diverse cultures. They were inspired by various cultural impulses and sometimes adopted them in their home conditions. Their family life was changed by new world-views, hygienic practices and meal habits, but in particular by a long-term absence of men. Division of labour was ruined and as a consequence interpersonal and intergeneration relations dissipated. As a result disintegration of large families was accelerated. Peddling also left traces in architecture and lifestyle in the region Kysuce. Influx of money and increasing contacts with more developed regions caused gradual disappearance of traditional men's clothing, overall prevalence of urban style in clothing and use of factory-made textiles. The results of the research demonstrate that peddlers greatly contributed to the development of all areas of traditional culture in Kysuce.
