The report reviews an academic session on American ethnicity which took place at the Faculty of International and Political Studies, Jagiellonian University on May 30th 2006 in Kraków. The session was organized by the Institute of American Studies and Polish Diaspora and gathered a group of outstanding scholars who came from Austria, Germany, Poland and the United States. It was a second meeting under the headline 'American Ethnicity: Rethinking Old Issues, Asking New Questions'. Specialists in the field gathered for the first time at the workshop arranged and hosted by the former Institute of Polish Diaspora and Ethnic Studies in October 2004. Both sessions were moderated by Professor Adam Walaszek who has been researching the history of migrations for years and is a known authority in the field. The aim of both meetings was to give an opportunity to exchange information and discuss ongoing research on American ethnicity. The report contains a short review of presented papers, which covered such issues as 'push and pull' factors of migrations, specific groups of immigrants, identity problems, ethnic prejudice, and which compared the migration to the USA and the migration to the Western Europe. These topics are extremely important and broad, and as it turned out there are still plenty of questions to be answered. Therefore, the participants declared a hope that the Krakow sessions will start a tradition of conferences concerning ethnicity issues. This idea is supported by the American Studies Association.
