DON'T FORGET US (RUSSIAN EXPATRIATES' PERIODICALS PUBLISHED IN CHINA DEPOSITED IN THE PRAGUE SLAVONIC LIBRARY)
Languages of publication
The essay concentrates on editorial and publishing activity of Russian expatriates who lived in China between 1918 and 1945. It introduces publishing of the local periodicals through a collection of periodicals published by Russian and Ukrainian expatriates which is deposited in the Prague Slavonic Library (Department of the National Library of the Czech Republic). The Russian community in China represented one of the world's main centres of Russian emigration which is documented by the amount and thematic extent of the published periodicals (135 newspapers and almost 300 magazines were published in the interwar period). Probably the most comprehensive and compact collection of periodicals published in China by Russian expatriates is deposited in the Prague Slavonic Library which took it over from the cancelled Russian Foreign Historical Archive in 1945. At present, no traces of the Russian expatriate community are preserved in Chinese expatriate centres. Consequently, the printed documentation represents a unique resource of knowledge on this period and lasting awareness of one of the most significant chapters regarding expatriates from the former Soviet Union.
