This study of the institutional system and regulatory basis for agricultural activities in the Kurzeme Region of the Republic of Latvia and the activities of companies and individual enterprises engaged in agricultural and related spheres is based on the assumption that the structure of the institutional system in the Kurzeme region is affected by the Baltic Sea. This article describes the institutions which influence the development of a common policy in the Kurzeme Region, summarizes their activities as set forth in regulatory documents, and assesses possible policy improvements. The study revealed that there is an appropriate institutional system for the creation, maintenance, management, monitoring and supervision of the economic structure in the region. The relevant institutions function under the auspices or supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Regional Development and Local Governments, as well as other institutions. This article gives an overview of the groups of institutions, functioning in the Kurzeme Region, as well as the most important regulatory documents.
