The paper presents the essence of ECM (Enterprise Content Management) and CMS (Content Management System) systems. The role of ECM systems in an enterprise is discussed. An electronic system to manage document circulation organizes information flow inside a firm, significantly facilitates their access, enables to control the realization of individual tasks. Suitably classified, immediately accessible documents are both a basis to maintain key business processes and a possibility to use common knowledge within the company.
