Growing number of commercial electronic information sources pushes libraries into updating their offer annually. It is not simple due to the dynamic development of the market. New services come into existence and those existing are still being enhanced and extended. What are the criteria and methods of selecting sources, to answer users' needs optimally, having only limited funds? What methods and criteria of selection should libraries apply to meet the needs of their users? This paper presents theoretical assumptions of decision-making process and its implementation in the Library of the Technical University of Lodz. Dominant factors influencing planning of e-journals and e-books services were discussed. Advantages and defects of previously applied methods and criteria of products evaluation are shown, there is also an attempt of definition of the most important and essential criteria that should influence the choice in the nearest future.
