The article focuses on the problem of the relation of ethics to the idea of God in the works of Kant left unpublished at his death – the so-called Opus postumum. These writings include mutually contradictory viewpoints, and it is not immediately clear how the tension might be resolved. In the article it is argued that the hermeneutical key, of help in interpreting problematic passages in the Opus postumum plausibly, is Kant’s version of the “myth of the sun” from the work Von einem neuerdings erhobenen vornehmen Ton in der Philosophie. The author comes to the conclusion that Kant, in his late philosophy, holds to the groundplan already established by his critical philosophy. In the article, the moral law is understood as a guiding principle which requires postulate the idea of God, referring to God as a transcendental being. The idea of God is thus not meant exclusively in an immanent sense.

Der vorliegende Artikel ist der Problematik der Beziehung zwischen der Ethik und der Idee Gottes in Kants Nachlasswerk Opus postumum gewidmet. Das Werk umfasst einander widersprechende Sichtweisen, wobei nicht klar wird, wie diese Spannung aufzulösen wäre. Der Artikel stellt Kants Version des „Sonnengleichnisses“ aus dem Werk Von einem neuerdings erhobenen vornehmen Ton in der Philosophie als hermeneutischen Schlüssel vor, mithilfe dessen die problematischen Passagen in Opus postumum plausibel interpretiert werden könnten. Der Autor gelangt zu der Überzeugung, dass sich Kant auch in seiner Spätphilosophie auf einem Gebiet bewegt, das bereits durch seine kritische Philosophie abgesteckt war. Gemäß der im Artikel dargelegten Interpretation wird das moralische Gesetz als Leitfaden verstanden, der die Vernunft dazu zwingt, eine Idee Gottes zu postulieren, die auf Gott als transzendentes Wesen verweist. Die Idee Gottes ist damit nicht ausschließlich im immanenten Wortsinn gemeint.
