The article is devoted to the exceptional musical collection comprising 16 settings of Psalm 116 by 16 composers from Central Germany (among them H. Schütz, J. H. Schein and M. Praetorius). The edition was designed by its originator and publisher as a musical votum for the received God's graces and, probably, for being saved from mortal danger referred to in the Psalm. The authoress describes the circumstances in which the collection was created and its theological and social background, as well as providing a profile of the collection's editor. She also discusses the style of the works included in 'Angst der Hellen' and its Introduction, in which Burkhard Grossman gives his views on music and reflects on its state during the relevant period.
