The article is based on about a dozen registers from the magistrate court of Rzeszów and Przemysl, containing, inter alia, testaments and probate inventories. The two towns in question had a population of about 3000 each; most buildings in both were wooden, with brick constructions found only around the market squares. In the category of household equipment the inventories list furniture, for example tables, stools, benches, wardrobes, trunks and beds with screens, as well as numerous vessels, e.g. pots (made of tin or copper), plates (tin, copper or silver), bathtubs, pans and various kinds of kettles. Many burghers owned considerable amounts of linen (sheets, pillowcases, tablecloths) and underclothing (linen or hempen shirts and shifts). Headgear was represented by various kinds of caps, some made of sable or fur-lined silk. Women's garments included colourful dresses, corsets, aprons and various kinds of caftans and overcoats (szuba, delia, ferezja, czamara, zupan, kontusik), often lined with fur and decorated with silver or gilded buttons. Popular men's overcoats were delia, zupan, ferezja, czamara and kontusz. Richer burghers and some noblemen dwelling in Rzeszów and Przemysl accumulated jewellery and silverware as a form of investment. In this category the inventories show considerable differences, reflecting varied financial standing of the inhabitants of the two towns.
