This article presents the first expressions of the soviet origin which appeared in the Polish language of Poland's North-Eastern borderland (kresy) in the period between the two World Wars. The analysis of that peculiar words and phrases has been performed on the material extracted from the daily newspaper 'Kurier Wilenski' published in Vilnius in the years 1924-1939. The author listed 32 lexems which were not present in the Polish language used in other parts of Poland in the period researched. The most numerous group (22 units) is made up of the borrowings from the Russian language that were in fact accepted and incorporated into the phonetic and grammatical system of the Polish language. The remaining 10 units of the Soviet provenience were presented in the form of quotations which in fact remained outside the general circulation presumably because of the clearly detectable connotations of strangeness (i.e. the Russian origin).
