The main objective of the paper was to attempt an analysis of links between institutions and individual agricultural holdings. Based on theoretical considerations and nation-wide questionnaire surveys, an aggregated index of the institutionalisation level of an agricultural holding was developed. It allowed for the delimitation of farms against the intensity and structure of links between agricultural farms and institutions. Then, in the identified classes of individual agricultural holdings characterised by varying intensity and structure of institutional links with the surrounding institutions, basic characteristics regarding the area of farms, its economic strength and production type were discussed.
