The article is a synthesis of the most important changes taking place in the transforming economy of Poland. They have been presented against the background of other EU countries. Strong rising tendencies are accompanied by increasing inflation pressure, more and more restrictive monetary policy, imbalance of general trade and payments, high loan needs of state budget which determine the increase of national debt. Apart from the evaluation of actual state of affairs, the author sketches a medium-dated vision of development of the country.
